Our Partners
Partnerships
Part of what makes Dreaming Out Loud, Inc. a successful organization is building strong partnerships. Leveraging relationships and finding synergistic means of collaboration allows us to magnify our impact. Our partners each have their own unique specialty areas which provide different resources that help our service-delivery in a number of ways.
In addition to partnerships, DOL actively engages in public discourse regarding the cross-section of issues that we seek to affect (see our mission statement). We interact through events, conferences, forums, publications and media outreach throughout the National Capitol Region and beyond. These networking and communication activities allow us to connect with like- minded organizations and debate with those with whom we disagree. In addition, DOL gains exposure and linkages across that racial, religious, ideological, and cultural spectrum.
Below is a list of some of the organizations we have partnered with:
Groundwork Anacostia River DC
Dennis Chestnut – Executive Director of Groundwork Anacostia River DC – has distinguished himself as a knowledgeable environmental program instructor and organizer. His foundation for success was built upon over 30 years of experience in the non-profit industry as the Executive Director of the Eastern Branch Striders Track & Field Club Inc., Program Director at Washington Parks & People, and Chairman of the Watts Branch Community Alliance. About nonprofits, Dennis says, “They deliver many services and save municipalities a lot of money through the varied resources and programs that they provide.”
Groundwork USA is a network of independent, not-for-profit, environmental businesses called Groundwork Trusts linked together by the Groundwork USA national office. With the inception of Groundwork Anacostia River DC, the organization will focus on improving the community’s quality of life through stewardship of the environment, opening economic opportunities, and community project planning.
How we worked together: During the summer of 2010 we worked to coordinate and implement Project Dream Green.
GreenTHINK
GreenTHINK is an informal network of like-minded individuals dedicated to exchanging ideas and professional knowledge related to the emerging green economy. The primary topics of discussion range from green collar jobs and technology to funding and activism.
Through participation in GreenTHINK, DOL has been able expand its programmatic model by exploring opportunities circulating through the community’s message-board and items brought to our attention during monthly meetings. It was through this group that we learned of the Monarch Sister Schools Program; connected with Groundwork Anacostia River DC and more.
How we will work together: We will continue to convene meetings, conduct forums, and organize and support community events regarding the critical areas of environmental movement.

Entire Village Computers Organization (EVCO)
EVCO’s mission is to provide computer literacy to the children of rural Africa through the donation of refurbished computers and accessories, organization of computer workshops and forums, and the promotion of community involvement and development. EVCO believes that there are enough unused used computers in the developed world that, with proper resources and organization, will enable us to introduce the smallest village in Africa to an exciting world that computers make possible.
How we will work together: We will work to connect the children of Ghana, Nigeria, and other nations with EVCO computer centers with children in Dreaming Out Loud programs through the internet, letter writing, mailings and more.

The Monarch Sister Schools Program
The Monarch Sister Schools Program (MSSP) is an initiative to involve school children across North America in the protection and restoration of the habitat of the Monarch butterfly, including its threatened winter forest habitat in the highlands of central Mexico and its disappearing milkweed habitat along its migratory “flyway” from Mexico to Canada. The Monarch’s intrinsic beauty, intriguing life cycle, and inspiring migration make the Monarch a truly awesome wonder of Nature. MSSP captures this compelling story and helps teachers to tap the natural curiosity of children and inspire their interest in science and nature. After years of pressure to “teach to the test”, educators across the country are looking for ways to strike a better balance and inject more inspiration into the learning process.
How we will work together: We will be partners in planning, planting, and maintaining flourishing monarch butterfly gardens at our partner elementary schools.
